Washington, DC, November 6, 2026—In response to President Trump’s appointment of Stephen Miller as White House Chief of Staff, Wendy Cervantes, director of the Children Thrive Action Network and director of immigration and immigrant families at the Center for Law and Social Policy, issued the following statement:
“This week, the election paved the way for federal and state policymakers to rein in the harmful attacks on immigrant children and families. But to close out the week, the White House handed its top staff job to the architect of family separation. Families across the nation are asking for simple things: to keep their kids safe, to afford groceries and gas, and to see a doctor when they’re sick. Stephen Miller has spent his career doing the opposite, tearing apart families and undermining children’s safety and well-being. Our kids need leaders who invest in every child’s future—not leaders who leave kids without their parents. The nation voted for a better future for our families, and we urge Congress to deliver by stopping harmful actors like Stephen Miller and implementing policies that will allow all children to thrive.”
