The Children Thrive Action Network, along with several national and state organizations, submitted the following public comment to the Department of Homeland Security in response to the proposed rule on employment authorization for asylum seekers. The proposed rule would severely restrict access to work permits for individuals seeking asylum by extending waiting periods, introducing new eligibility barriers, and granting broad discretion to deny applications. The rule would undermine families’ ability to meet basic needs such as housing, food, child care, health care, and education. These impacts would be especially acute for children, affecting their stability, development, and long-term well-being.
